Concepts and Workflow Reference
A short glossary of the words 2Timer uses, the import and export formats in one place, and the order a meet is usually built and run. Each entry is one or two lines with a link to the page that explains it in full.
How 2Timer keeps your meets
2Timer runs in the browser at manager.2timer.app and keeps each meet
on the device and in the browser where you made it. No server or account is needed to time a meet,
and most work carries on offline. A meet moves between devices as a .2t backup file. See
Offline Access and PWA and
Importing a 2Timer Backup.
Glossary
Meet
Everything for one competition: events, athletes, entries, results, connections, and settings. Its Sport (Running, Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, Outdoor Track & Field) decides what the meet offers, and its Genre sets the fields shown and the wizard’s starting divisions and events. See Meet Setup.
Event
One contest in a meet, such as the Girls 5K or the Boys 200m, with an event number that sets the running order and matches imported results. Track and field events also have a discipline (Dash/Run, Hurdles, Relay, Throw, and so on) and can have rounds. See Meet Setup and Track and Field Setup.
Super-Event
One physical race that feeds results into two or more separate events, such as girls and boys running together but scored apart. See Super-Events.
Athlete
A person on the meet’s roster: name, bib, gender, age or grade, team, and so on. See Athletes and Entries.
Entry
An athlete (or, for a relay, a team and squad letter) entered in one event and round. The entry holds the result, place, heat, lane, and status. See Athletes and Entries and Relays.
Bib
The athlete’s race number. A bib belongs to the athlete, not to the entry. See Athletes and Entries.
Chip
A timing chip linked to a bib, in road and cross country races, so a chip read becomes that runner’s time. FinishLynx and Time Machine work without chips. See Chips.
Marker
A timing point on a road or cross country course (Start, Finish, or a split) with a read window. The new-meet wizard creates them; a connection’s Read Routing sends reads to them. See Markers and Reads.
Read
One detection from a timing system. Its status on Reads says whether it became a result and, if not, why. See Markers and Reads.
Wave
A group of road or cross country athletes who start a set number of seconds after the gun. See Waves.
Group
An award category, such as an age group or a masters band, matched by gender, age or grade, and division, with a number of award places. See Groups.
Division
A grouping of events, such as Varsity Girls, used for reports, seeding, and the schedule. See Meet Setup.
Team
A school or club, with a short team code that imports and timing files use. Turn off the team’s Scored? to keep it out of team scores. See Teams and Leagues.
League
A group of teams for conference views and double-dual scoring. See Teams and Leagues.
Seeding Profile
A set of seeding rules for track and field rounds, such as NFHS Outdoor. See Seeding Profiles and Defaults.
Session
A block of a track and field meet’s day, with rounds in running order and estimated start times. See Sessions.
Stopwatch
The built-in hand-timing watch. A meet timed by hand uses it as its timing. See Hand Timing with the Stopwatch.
Display board
A physical scoreboard or video board, fed by a scoreboard connection and driven from the meet’s Scoreboard page. See Scoreboard.
System
A timing system, registration platform, results destination, or scoreboard that you use, such as ONETIME, FinishLynx, RunSignUp, S3 / R2, or DisplayWorks, kept with its key in Settings → Systems. See Systems and Connections.
Connection
One system hooked up to one meet, on the meet’s Connections page. It is part of the meet and travels in its backup. See Systems and Connections.
Basic and Standard
The two experience levels. Basic is the same program with fewer controls; Standard shows them all. Change it in Settings → Preferences. See Getting Started.
Import formats at a glance
All file imports are on the meet’s Import page (Import… on the dashboard). At the Basic level only Spreadsheet is offered.
| Import card | Files |
|---|---|
| Spreadsheet | .csv, .xlsx, .tsv, .html, paste |
| RunSignUp participants | .csv |
| Athletic.net entry export | .csv |
| Hy-Tek team/athlete list | .tcl |
| Lynx roster | .ppl, .afl |
| Hy-Tek meet file | .hy3, .txt, record .csv |
| Lynx schedule | .evt |
| RaceTab meet | .rtql |
| Lynx results | .lif, .lff |
| Chip assignments | .csv, .txt, .json |
| 2Timer backup | .2t |
Live and repeating data comes from connections instead: RunSignUp and RaceRoster for athletes, and ONETIME, FinishLynx, IPICO, MyLaps, ChronoTrack, Trident, Feibot, Generic RFID, Race Result, and Time Machine for timing. See Importing Data and Setting Up Each System.

A meet from start to finish
The dashboard’s stages follow this order and show what’s next. See The Meet Dashboard.
- Create the meet: a sport card on the home screen opens the new-meet wizard (basics, rules or
age groups, divisions, events, Systems, Review). It creates the markers and sets up your usual
systems. Or use Import a meet to start from a Hy-Tek, RaceTab, Athletic.net, RunSignUp, or
Open Meet Exchange file, or a meet’s link, each with the same Systems step, or from a
.2tbackup. See Starting a Meet. - Teams, athletes, and entries: import or type them in. Turn off Scored? for teams that shouldn’t score.
- Bibs and chips: number bibs, and load chips for chip-timed races.
- Seed track and field rounds. See Seeding and Advancement.
- Timing: finish connecting your timing system, or use the stopwatch. Test it: a test read on Reads should show the right marker and bib. Before the gun it shows Before Start, which is expected.
- Race day: record the gun, watch reads, and fix exceptions. See Timing Workflow.
- Results: set DNS and DNF, make results official, print reports, publish, and keep a
.2tbackup.
