Relays
How relay events work in track and field meets: relay entries with a team code and squad letter, entering each leg’s runner and alternates, leg splits, and what to check before seeding or exporting to FinishLynx. A relay event needs the Relay discipline.
Relay entries: team code and squad letter
A relay entry is a team, not one athlete. Each relay entry has:
- Team code: the school or club, such as
LETO; - Squad letter:
A,B,C, or blank, for a school’s different squads; - its round, heat, and lane;
- its legs, when you enter them.
The relay’s time or place belongs to the relay entry as a whole.
A and B relay teams from one school
Use one team code for the school and a squad letter for each squad. Lincoln’s A and B teams in the
4x400 are LIN with squad A and LIN with squad B, not separate team codes like LINA and
LINB. Separate codes would score and report as different schools.
Enter the runners for each leg, and alternates
- Open the relay entry from Entries.
- Under Relay Legs, choose the Athlete for each leg, in running order: Leg 1, Leg 2, and so on. The event’s leg count sets how many legs there are (4 unless the event says otherwise).
- Press Add Alternate for each alternate. Rows after the legs are alternates.
- Optionally type each leg’s Leg split.
- Save.
The legs identify who ran; each leg isn’t timed separately. FinishLynx results can bring leg splits in with the relay’s result.
Relay team codes when a team changes
- Changing a team’s code on its team page moves its relay entries to the new code too.
- Deleting a team keeps its relay entries’ team code, and the delete dialog says how many relays there are.
See Teams and Leagues.
Relays that should show but not score
To show a school’s relay in results without it scoring, turn off that team’s Scored? toggle on Teams. Relay points use the meet’s Relay points ladder and Relay squads limit (see Track and Field Team Scoring).
Relays from imports
A Hy-Tek meet file, a Lynx schedule (.evt), and a RaceTab meet can bring in relay
entries, and their legs when the file has them. After importing, check that:
- relay team codes match your teams;
- squad letters are right;
- squads haven’t turned into separate school codes.
Relays: check before seeding or exporting to FinishLynx
- Each relay event has the Relay discipline.
- Each relay entry has the right team code.
- Schools with more than one squad have squad letters.
- Legs are entered if your meet needs them on start lists or results.
