Sessions
Sessions split a track and field meet into blocks of the day, such as “Friday Morning” or “Afternoon Finals”, each with its rounds in running order. 2Timer can estimate each track round’s start time within a session, and the schedule reports group events by session. Sessions are for track and field meets only.
Open the Sessions page
Open Sessions in the meet navigation. At the Basic level, Sessions isn’t in the sidebar: open it from Setup → Manage sessions and start times….
The page has a tab for each session along the top, the selected session’s rounds on the left, and Available Rounds on the right.
Create a session
- On Sessions, press Add Session.
- Enter the Session name, such as
Day 2 Finals. - Choose the Mode: Rolling (the default) or Fixed.
- Optionally set Session start (optional).
- Press Add Session.
Afterwards, change the session’s start, mode, and location on its tab. Use ◀ Earlier and Later ▶ to move the session in the meet’s order, and Delete session to remove it.
Put the 100m final (or any round) into a session
Sessions hold rounds, not whole events, so prelims and finals can be in different sessions. To put an event’s round, such as the 100m final, into the afternoon session:
- On Sessions, select the afternoon session’s tab.
- In Available Rounds, find the round. Search by event name or number… helps.
- Press Add, or drag the round into the session.
Rounds aren’t put into sessions from the event form; only here.
Available Rounds shows rounds not in any session. Tick Show assigned to also see rounds in other sessions; their button reads Move, to move them to this session.
Change the running order or remove a round
- Reorder: drag the rounds in the session into the order they’ll run.
- Remove: press Remove on the round. The round isn’t deleted; it goes back to unassigned.
- Round times and notes: each round in a session can hold its own scheduled time and a short note.
Fixed or rolling sessions
- Fixed: the session runs to clock times, such as field events at 9:00 AM and finals at 1:30 PM. Round times are real scheduled times.
- Rolling: events run one after another as the meet flows. The order matters more than the clock. Schedule reports print a rolling session’s times as Approximate, under a “Rolling Schedule” heading.
Estimate start times for track events
2Timer can estimate when each track round in a session will start, from its heats and seed times:
- Select the session. Estimate start times appears when the session has at least two track rounds.
- In Estimate Track Start Times, set First track start, and check the buffers: Heat buffer (1 minute), Event buffer (3 minutes), Hurdle setup (5 minutes), and Fallback heat (1 minute, used for heats with no seed times).
- Review each round’s current and proposed time, heats, and duration.
- Press Apply estimates.
Seed the rounds first for the best estimates; unseeded rounds use the fallback times, and the dialog says so.
Session location
A session’s Location is an optional venue note, such as Main Straight or East Ring, useful
when several venues run at once.
Common session setups
- Morning field, afternoon track: a fixed morning session for field events and an afternoon session for track.
- Multi-day meets: separate sessions per day, such as
Friday PrelimsandSaturday Finals. - Prelims and finals apart: a prelim in an early session and its final in a later one.
Reports that use sessions
Session Program / Session List and Order of Events show the meet by session and round. See Results and Reports.
