Track and Field

An overview of running an indoor or outdoor track and field meet in 2Timer, from creating the meet to publishing results, with the page that covers each step. A lot of track and field behavior comes from meet-wide settings and the new-meet wizard rather than event-by-event setup: the seeding profile, venue lanes, field mark units, and team scoring ladders.

A track and field meet from start to finish

  1. Create the meet with Indoor Track & Field or Outdoor Track & Field on the home screen. The wizard asks Events/Rounds, the seeding profile, divisions, and events from Track Events, Field Events, and Relay events, with rounds for each (Track and Field Setup).
  2. Load athletes and entries, for example from a Hy-Tek meet file or a spreadsheet (Importing Data).
  3. Check Setup: venue lanes, Field marks, Hip numbers, and the team scoring ladders and limits (Meet Setup).
  4. Seed heats, lanes, and flights (Seeding and Advancement).
  5. Print start lists, heat sheets, and hip number stickers (Results and Reports, Labels).
  6. Time and enter results: FinishLynx for track (FinishLynx for Track and Field), Field Input for field events (Field Events), or the stopwatch (Hand Timing with the Stopwatch).
  7. Advance to the next round, and seed it.
  8. Check team scores, then report, export, and publish (Track and Field Team Scoring).

Track and field settings on Setup

On a track and field meet, Setup (Meet Setup) has:

  • Venue: Track length, Track shape, Oval lanes, and Straight lanes.
  • Track & Field Setup: Field marks, Seeding profile, and Hip numbers.
  • Team Scoring: Individual points, Relay points, Individual scorers, and Relay squads.

At the Basic level, it shows the meet details, venue name and location, Oval lanes, Field marks, and the points ladders; the rest keep their values.

Indoor and outdoor differences

  • Outdoor meets record wind for races under 400 m and for the long jump and triple jump. Steeplechase is offered only outdoors.
  • Indoor meets record no wind, and the venue has Track shape (for example a banked 200 m oval).

Markers and Chips aren’t used in track and field: FinishLynx results are matched by heat and lane.
