2Timer Help

Practical guides for humans, with structure that is easy for AI systems to parse.

Purging Results and Resetting State

Which tool to use when you need to wipe bad results, start a meet over after a test run, or remove part of a meet’s setup without rebuilding it. From narrowest to widest:

  1. Clear Data on Entries: times, places, or bibs for one race or selected entries.
  2. Clear Bib Numbers on Athletes: bib numbers on the roster.
  3. Purge results… on the meet dashboard: results and timing reads for the whole meet, keeping entries, heats, lanes, and seeding.
  4. Purge meet data… on the meet dashboard: whole categories such as athletes, events, teams, or connections.

Use the narrowest one that fixes the problem. None of them can be undone, except by restoring a backup.

Back up before you purge or clear anything

Press Back up now at the bottom of the meet dashboard first. A purge can’t be undone, and that .2t backup is how you get the meet back if you purge the wrong thing (see Importing a 2Timer Backup).

Clear one race’s times or places (Clear Data)

When only one race is wrong, you don’t need a purge. On Entries, select the race and choose Tools → Clear Data…, then Clear times, Clear timing and place, Clear identities, or Delete rows. To clear only some entries, select them and press Clear. Every entry in scope is cleared, or none.

Clear Data doesn’t delete timing reads, so on a chip-timed race Recalculate builds the times again from them. See Athletes and Entries for each choice.

Clear bib numbers from the roster

To remove bib numbers from athletes, for example after numbering the wrong group, use Tools → Clear Bib Numbers… on Athletes. It can be narrowed by gender and team. Entries keep their old bibs and results but are unlinked from the athletes. See Athletes and Entries.

Start the meet over after a test run (Purge results)

Purge results clears the meet’s results while keeping its setup, so you can reset a meet to the beginning after a test run, re-import timing data, or re-score from scratch.

  1. At the bottom of the meet dashboard, press Remove data…, then Purge results…. This is offered at every experience level.
  2. Check what’s selected. Everything except Field-event setup helpers starts selected:
    • Entry results: times, places, result status, splits, flags, notes, and field-series marks. Entry rows, heats, lanes, rounds, and seeds stay.
    • Entries after round 1: deletes semifinal, final, and later-round entries, so the meet goes back to its first round. Unselect it to keep advancement into later rounds.
    • Timing reads: all saved reads from chip timing, FinishLynx and FieldLynx, and other timing connections, and also every stopwatch session.
    • Heat metadata: per-heat results such as heat wind readings.
    • Tie-break results: tie resolutions and jump-off results for each round.
    • Connection activity counters: read counts, last-read times, and publish totals.
    • Field-event setup helpers (not selected to start): setup such as vertical-jump bar progressions.
  3. Press the purge button and type RESET RESULTS to confirm.

Athletes, teams, events, divisions, groups, waves, connections, markers, and chips are not touched.

Purge results: options that switch each other on

Some Purge results options turn others on, and the page marks them:

  • Entry results also clears Heat metadata, Tie-break results, and Connection activity counters.
  • Entries after round 1 also clears Tie-break results.
  • Timing reads also clears Connection activity counters.

That keeps the meet from being left with summaries of results that no longer exist.

Wipe bad chip times but keep entries and heats

You loaded the wrong chip file and the results are garbage, but the entries, heats, and seeding are right:

  1. Press Back up now on the meet dashboard.
  2. Press Remove data… → Purge results….
  3. Keep Timing reads and Entry results selected. Unselect Entries after round 1 if you want to keep later-round entries.
  4. Type RESET RESULTS to confirm.
  5. Fix the chips or the file, then load the right timing data again.

Clearing timing reads also removes stopwatch sessions. If the meet was partly hand timed, save those sessions’ lists to a file first (Save to a file in Apply Times).

Remove athletes, events, teams, or connections (Purge meet data)

Purge meet data removes whole categories from the meet. Use it only when you mean to remove them.

  1. At the bottom of the meet dashboard, press Remove data…, then Purge meet data…. The page it opens is called Purge database.
  2. Select the categories to remove. Nothing is selected to start:
    • Athletes, Teams, Events
    • Entries, results, and relay legs, Timing reads (with stopwatch sessions)
    • Divisions, Groups, Waves, Leagues
    • Connections, Markers, Chips
  3. Press the purge button and type PURGE to confirm.

Examples: purge Events when the events were set up wrong, or Connections to set the meet’s timing and results connections up again from scratch.

What purging one category does to the others

Purge meet data handles what depends on what, so nothing is left pointing at something deleted:

  • Events also removes their entries and markers.
  • Teams clears the team code on athletes and removes the teams from leagues.
  • Athletes removes the athletes; their entries stay.
  • Divisions, Groups, and Waves are removed from events, entries, and athletes, which stay.
  • Connections and Markers are removed from reads, which stay.

There’s no undo for a purge

A purge can’t be reversed inside the meet. If you purged the wrong thing, restore the backup you made first: on the home screen, import the .2t file as a new meet, or, inside the meet, use Restore a 2Timer backup. See Importing a 2Timer Backup.

After purging: what to check

  • The meet has only the data you meant to keep.
  • Entries shows the rounds, heats, and lanes you expected.
  • Reads is empty if you cleared timing reads.
  • Your re-import or rebuild starts from that clean state.
